ABM has launched its inaugural Women’s Impact Group in the UK and Ireland, coinciding with the global celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March.

This initiative aims to address the ongoing challenge of achieving true equity for women in both the workplace and society at large.

ABM’s impact group

The primary objective of this group is to align with the company‘s overarching mission of fostering a supportive work environment where every individual is valued, empowered and provided with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the company’s objectives.

Specifically, the UK and Ireland chapter will focus on promoting the recognition and leadership of women within ABM while striving to enhance understanding of what constitutes an equitable and inclusive workplace for women.

Collaborating closely with the executive steering committee, the group will identify actionable pathways for female team members to pursue leadership positions within ABM.

Additionally, it will establish mechanisms to facilitate mentoring, recruitment and professional development opportunities for women across the organisation.

One of the initial tasks at hand is to gather insights from various stakeholders throughout the company to shape the group’s strategy for its inaugural year.

Importantly, participation in the Women’s Impact Group is open to individuals of all genders within ABM‘s diverse industry groups.

“A long term commitment”

Susan Mason, UK & Ireland IT Director and Women’s Impact Group member commented: “The enthusiasm which this group has been met with has been fantastic.

“This is a historically male dominated industry and so it is refreshing to see the encouragement and support that has been given to a group set on making incremental change.

“Launching it on International Women’s Day is a meaningful way to participate.

“It’s not about a party to thank women just for one day – this is a long term commitment from people of all genders to collaborate on a better future for women.

“What a way to celebrate!”

International Women’s Day, observed since the early 1900s, serves as a global platform to advocate for women’s rights, including gender equality, reproductive rights and combating violence and abuse.

The theme for the 2024 campaign is ‘#InspireInclusion’, highlighting the importance of fostering inclusive environments for all individuals.
