Genetec has claimed that it has become the first manufacturer to attain the Cyber Assurance for Physical Security Systems (CAPSS) 2023 standard for unified video and access control software.

The solutions recognised with CAPSS approved status include: Genetec Security Centre Omnicast, Genetec Security Centre Synergis and the Genetec Synergis Cloud Link.

Streamlines deployment and maintenance

According to the company, this not only streamlines the deployment and maintenance of the systems but also simplifies the CAPSS recertification process for all stakeholders.

Mathieu Chevalier, Principal Security Architect and Manager, Genetec explained: “Our certification with CAPSS and equivalent standards is an essential element in demonstrating our comprehensive approach to cyber resilience.

“Customers can be sure that the cybersecurity of physical security is hard baked into the design of our solutions.”

The CAPSS certification

In the UK, the CAPSS program has been collaboratively developed by the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The program was introduced in acknowledgment of the escalating threat of cyber-attacks to critical national infrastructure, aspiring to establish the gold standard for the cybersecurity of physical security systems.

CAPSS certified technology becomes a prerequisite for high-security government projects and is increasingly specified in tenders for other critical national infrastructure (CNI) sectors, including telecoms.

The certification instils confidence in security managers, assuring them that the selected software and hardware solutions incorporate robust and effective cyber mitigations at the core of their development and operation.

Genetec: Enhanced cyber resilience

Paul Dodds, Country Manager, UK & Ireland, Genetec added: “We’re thrilled that consultants, channel partners and end users can now confidently specify Genetec for any deployment in which CAPSS certification is mandated or desired.

“We are already very well established in the government and CNI sectors, where there’s a great need for trusted unified video and access control software that enhances cyber resilience.”

CAPSS is the most recent addition to the company’s expanding portfolio of certifications, showcasing the company’s steadfast dedication to cybersecurity and privacy.

Other certifications held by the company include ISO 27001 and 27017, the UL 2900-2 – level 3 standard, SOC 2 Type II and the European Privacy Seal.
