Belfast International Airport is set to utilise 3D x-ray scanners from Smiths Detection.

Belfast International Airport boosts security

According to Smiths, the 3D images produced by the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX enable passengers to leave liquids and large electronics in their carry-on baggage.

Not only does this significantly enhance detection at Belfast International Airport, but it increases operational efficiency as passengers move through security.

The new roll out is in line with the UK government’s mandate to introduce CT x-ray scanners.

“New generation of technology”

“We’re delighted to begin this partnership with Belfast International Airport to provide them with the leading technology that will enhance security outcomes and improve efficiency for a smoother passenger experience,” said Andy Evripides, Head of Market NW Europe, Smiths Detection.

“Belfast International Airport plays a pivotal role for aviation, tourism and the wider local economy,” added Nabeel Gill, Head of Security, Belfast International Airport.

“We are committed to sustainably developing the security standards of the airport and increase operational efficiency.

“This new generation of technology will ensure a safe and efficient experience for our passengers.”
