Geoff Kohl, Senior Director of Marketing, Security Industry Association (SIA) speaks about the theme of change at the Securing New Ground (SNG) conference, taking place 17 – 18 October at the InterContinental New York Times Square, New York City.

What is Securing New Ground?

Since 1996, Securing New Ground (SNG) has been the executive conference for the security industry and it has really become known as the event where business leaders gather to consider and share visions and perspectives on the future of our industry.

The event is one and a half days of sessions, but the networking that occurs at this event is unmatched.

For 2023, we’ve added a dinner event with a keynote from General Stanley McChrystal to build in even more networking opportunities for the executive attendees who come to SNG.

Who are some of the key speakers at SNG 2023?

Besides Gen. McChrystal, there are keynotes from Nasdaq’s Chief Economist, Phil Mackintosh and James P. O’Neill, the Global Head of Security and Safety for Visa.

Securing New Ground has also become well known for its 1:1 executive interviews.

Wesco Executive Vice President (EVP) and General Manager of Communications and Security Solutions, Bill Geary, will be interviewed by dormakaba Americas President Alex Housten.

HID Global EVP and Head, Bjorn Lidefelt, will share his thoughts with Lee Odess, the Founder of Access Control Executive Brief.

Genetec’s President and CEO, Pierre Racz, will be interviewed by Bill Bozeman, Founder of Bozeman Strategic Solutions and former CEO of the PSA Security Network.

However, the entire agenda is really full of leaders, from the Chief Cybersecurity Officer of Siemens, Helen Negre, to Ray Mauritsson, CEO of Axis Communications.

There are just too many great speakers to mention and what’s unique about SNG is that since we cap the event at fewer than 300 persons to keep it intimate, the attendees and speakers all engage very closely and get to know each other.

Who is SNG designed for and why?

SNG has been specifically designed for executives and business leaders at any firm whose business is “the business of security,” as our tagline states.

Besides companies that are manufacturing and creating security solutions, Securing New Ground is attended by some of the top security integrators and a growing number of leading corporate and government security leaders. We also bring in a big focus on the economy on the second day of the program.

What are the key themes at this year’s conference?

The theme of SNG is always the theme of “change.”

It’s about how the business side of security is changing. It’s about how Chief Security Officers (CSOs) are changing the value proposition they give to their leadership. We’ll get into major topics like AI, cybersecurity and workforce development.

Why do attendees keep coming back to Securing New Ground?

I’ll let our attendees speak for themselves by quoting David Antar, the President of IPVideo Corporation.

This is a very innovative and nimble company that was an early leader in IP video technologies and today is pushing the limits of multitechnology sensors.

David once told us that prior to attending, he wasn’t sure that Securing New Ground was for a company like his, but that once he attended, he realised that for CEOs like him, being at SNG was the best use of his time.

“One of the most unique events that I know of is SNG… And the reason is the size of the conference, with a couple hundred people mostly in the C-suite with different companies – competitors and partners alike – and also the format, with discussions between those C-level people on the stage addressing the sensitive and difficult topics in our industry as well as great insights from some big end customers. I learn a lot of things from that conference that form the future of Axis, my company, and I’m also very proud to be part of forming the future of our whole industry.”
