Julie Barker confirmed as AUCSO Chief Operating Officer

Julie Barker has been appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer of The Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO). AUCSO is the leading organisation for security professionals working in higher and further education around the world.

As the former Director of Hospitality and Accommodation Services at University of Brighton for over 25 years, Lead Sustainability Non-Exec Director for CUBO and Chair of TUCO for six years, Julie is a two-time’ winner of the highly coveted Catey Awards. She featured prominently within the Public Sector Top 20 Most Influential from 2011 to 2016 and is a respected consultant to the sector.

Not only does Julie have a wide breadth of experience at Board and Chair level of membership organisations; her expertise has been underpinned by an extensive knowledge across a range of sectors within the Facilities Management and Hospitality sectors. She was instrumental in re-launching TUCO (The University Caterers Organisation), conceptualising and mobilising a raft of new services to support member value, learning and training in this respected member association.

Speaking of her new appointment, Julie said: “I am delighted to be joining AUCSO at a pivotal time in its evolution and development when security and safeguarding has never been so important in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of campus communities, supporting students during their time with universities whether on site or through resi-life.

Julie was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Public Sector Awards in 2018.
