His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service Officers working in England and Wales will be equipped with new body-worn cameras from Motorola Solutions.
13,000 of the company’s VB400 body-worn cameras will be utilised to help enhance officer safety as well as trust and transparency for staff and prisoners alike.
Maintaining safety and security across prison operations
The VB400 solution offers high quality video and audio capture and are fitted with an automatic pre-recording feature which ensures that there is a record of every interaction.
According to the company, officers return the VB400 cameras to their docks when signing off duty – from here, recorded footage and audio is automatically uploaded and stored to the VideoManager evidence management platform.
Fergus Mayne, Country Manager, UK and Ireland, Motorola Solutions commented: “We’re seeing a growing trend in the use of video security technology by prisons to help their frontline teams fulfil their roles safely and transparently.
“The UK government’s investment in body-worn cameras for officers in all public sector prisons across England and Wales highlights the vital importance of this technology in helping to maintain safety and security across prison operations.”
Not only are the body-worn camera’s lightweight and rugged, they also offer a wide angle field of view and 12 hour battery life.
