The Security Institute’s Annual Conference has been a long-standing highlight of the security industry calendar and this year it will be a virtual conference that can be attended for free from the comfort and safety of your own home.

The conference has also been extended across the entire week commencing 19 October, with two presentations being delivered daily at 10:00 and 15:00 BST. The virtual conference space will open at 09:00 BST daily, with delegates free to peruse around the virtual exhibition hall and explore the offerings from some of the industry leaders. Delegates can then “take their seat” in the virtual conference centre for the 10:00 session, which will be followed by an afternoon break with further browsing opportunities across the exhibition hall before the 15:00 session.

Speaking on this year’s Annual Virtual Conference, the Security Institute’s Chief Executive Rick Mounfield CSyP FSyI stated: “Although the circumstances for this year’s Annual Conference may be different, I am excited to present the same high-quality opportunities for professional development as ever with a line-up of industry-leading speakers from across the globe that we will be announcing in the coming weeks.”

Institute members and non-members are free to book onto the conference and then pick and choose which of the sessions they wish to attend here: https://event.bookitbee.com/29419/19th-23rd-oct-syi-virtual-annual-conference-2020-t

Bookings will close on 15 October at 12:00 BST.

Science of Security

Following on from the very successful ‘Annual Conference 2019: People-Centred Security’, this year’s theme centres around the ‘Science of Security’ with a range of expert speakers that represent the diversity across the security sector. Science sits behind the majority of Security Practices and capabilities, some are obvious and some less so. The Conference’s virtual sessions will highlight and explore some of the benefits science brings to our ability to protect, influence and develop as security professionals.

Speakers will present on topics that will consider the importance of Science in all aspects of security, through:

  • Engineering
  • Psychology
  • Technology
  • The Human factors
  • The impacts of connectivity via the Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Forensic sciences
  • Impact of space exploration

This broad range of topics presents a fantastic learning opportunity for security professionals and others with a keen interest in the sector, to learn more about future threats and mitigating theories that will enhance your knowledge and hopefully make you think harder and research further. It is the Security Institute’s premier CPD event and 2 formal CPD points will be awarded for every hour of learning undertook during the conference.

Agenda

Sarah Austerberry CSyP FSyI and Rick Mounfield CSyP FSyI have been announced as co-hosts for the week, bringing their years of expertise as Chartered Security Professionals to their roles.

The line-up of expert speakers will be continually announced in the lead up to Conference via the Institute’s social media channels. A benefit of hosting a virtual conference is that the Institute can call on experts and industry-leading speakers from across the globe to share their insights, which ordinarily would not have been possible with a face-to-face conference.
