International Security Journal reflects on a highly successful event at the NEC Birmingham in April.

The security sector demonstrated its remarkable strength and vitality at this year’s highly anticipated event: The Security Event. With a record-breaking attendance of 11,231 visitors, exceeding all expectations for its fourth edition, the event served as a testament to the industry’s continuous growth and innovation.

Held at the NEC Birmingham from 25–27 April 2023, The Security Event showcased the latest technology and innovative solutions from over 275 world leading security manufacturers and suppliers. The exhibition footprint saw a remarkable increase of 43%.

The event provided attendees with a unique opportunity to witness the exclusive release of new products, participate in live demonstrations and engage in workshops. It also facilitated networking and interaction with prominent leaders in the security industry.

Among the standout moments was the highly anticipated debut of Professional Security Officer Live, a platform dedicated to frontline security professionals. This initiative provided an invaluable opportunity for security officers to enhance their skills and knowledge; the dedicated platform recognised the crucial role played by frontline professionals and empowered them with valuable resources, training and recognition.

Furthermore, the event featured the launch of the Access Control Executive Brief Theatre, the Physical Security Zone and various other initiatives, including The Ultimate Apprenticeship Challenge, in partnership with Skills for Security.

Such achievements demonstrated The Security Event’s commitment to promoting and nurturing the next generation of security, fire and safety professionals.

Visitors were also impressed by the quality, volume and breadth of exhibitors, with many praising the cutting-edge technology and range of services on display. The event not only showcased established names, but also served as a platform for emerging companies to present their innovative offerings.

Reuniting the security industry

“We were delighted to see such overwhelming support from exhibitors, partners and visitors and to have the opportunity to reunite the security industry once again in Birmingham, UK,” commented Tristan Norman, Group Event Director.

“The electric buzz on the show floor was a testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone involved and we received incredibly positive feedback from visitors and exhibitors alike. The Security Event has firmly established itself as the ‘main event’ for the security industry in the UK and we couldn’t be more proud.”

The success of this year’s event was also reflected in the impressive onsite rebooking rate of 105% and an exhibitor retention rate of 93%. Such figures demonstrate the high level of satisfaction among participants and the anticipation for future editions of The Security Event.

With next year’s event scheduled to take place from 30 April – 2 May 2024, and moving to the larger Hall 5, the event organisers are confident that TSE will continue to grow and exceed expectations in years to come.

The security industry thrives on collaboration, knowledge-sharing and staying up to date with the latest advancements. The Security Event caters to these needs and provides a platform for industry professionals to connect, learn and explore new possibilities.
