Smiths Detection provided its advanced high energy X-ray screening systems to enhance security measures for the NFL Super Bowl, which attracted over 61,000 attendees in February 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, US.
Traditionally utilised by customs and border operations for detecting concealed contraband or potential threats, the three Smiths Detection HCVM cargo screening systems, owned by US Customs and Border Protection and sourced from the Port of Long Beach, California, were deployed to screen all incoming goods in the week leading up to the event.
Smiths Detection’s solution
This proactive measure aimed to ensure that no threats infiltrated the stadium.
The HCVM system employs high energy X-ray technology capable of penetrating up to 12.6 inches (320mm) of steel, enabling the inspection of shipping containers or large vehicles to reveal their contents.
Its mobility feature further enhances its utility by facilitating deployment where needed most.
Matthias Springer, Vice President of Sales, Smiths Detection commented: “We were honoured to once again have had our high energy X-ray screening equipment used as part of the NFL’s high level security operation to protect players, performers, spectators and staff at this year’s Super Bowl.
“With tens of thousands in attendance and hundreds of millions more watching on television and online, the importance of security is paramount and we’re incredibly pleased to have been part of this successful event.”
