ISJ speaks exclusively with H.E. Khalifa Ibrahim Al Saleis, CEO & Executive Director, SIRA.
What future trends do you foresee shaping Dubai’s security industry?
Dubai, as one of the most progressive cities in the world, has made significant strides in leveraging technology within the security industry.
For example, it is among the first security systems worldwide to introduce the use of drones in rapid response operations and has pioneered the use of AI technologies to reduce crime and enhance the quality of safe living.
In my opinion, the most critical challenge in achieving an integrated future security system will be focusing on training and developing human skills to align with the use of technology.
Contrary to the belief that smart devices can replace humans, the industry will require skilled professionals to handle and optimally manage modern security devices and technologies to realise the leadership’s vision for Dubai.
Additionally, there is a need for regulatory frameworks and legislation that keep pace with this development, including amendments to regulations and laws to ensure continued compliance while maintaining privacy and mitigating the risks of unsafe use of technologies.
How is your agency fostering collaboration with local and international stakeholders?
We have always been committed to present at all security conferences, in addition to building partnerships with the government sector, as we are part of the Government of Dubai.
In this phase, we aim to expand the sector’s representation at various conferences, whether related to security, technology, or smart cities, both regionally and internationally.
The agency is considered one of the most active entities in this field, as we prioritise inviting local and international delegations to visit our various platforms at exhibitions and coordinating visits to relevant departments to exchange expertise and explore the latest practices in the sector.
Moreover, we have agreements and partnerships with specialised security publications and training centres, which we consider a link to key stakeholders around the world.
How does SIRA leverage emerging technologies to enhance security and safety standards?
As the entity responsible for regulating the private security sector in Dubai, we place great importance on utilising technology to design systems and applications that organise the work of security personnel and facilitate communication among them, thereby enhancing rapid response capabilities.
Additionally, we focus on developing technologies for managing operations rooms, tracking hazardous shipments and other systems that ensure the implementation of the highest standards of proactivity and precautionary measures to maintain safety and security.
Could you share any upcoming initiatives or programs that your agency is implementing?
The agency will support programs to evaluate high-quality security company services through customer feedback, encouraging competition among companies to provide exceptional service.
We also aim to support certain security services through smart applications and to implement smart training programs for security personnel through the website.
What are SIRA’s plans for 2025?
We aim to enhance our services at the agency by integrating AI.
Additionally, many administrative procedures will be streamlined as part of Dubai’s vision to provide fast, innovative and flexible services, supporting the Emirate’s economy through joint platforms with our strategic partners.
