Ahead of the Jeux de la Francophonie (Francophone Games) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, safety and security has been boosted to protect attending athletes.
Coordinator Isidor Kwanja confirmed that over 4,000 police, supported by state security agents, will be deployed.
It has also been confirmed that athletes will be escorted by police and that accommodation has been fitted with security cameras.
According to an article published by Reuters, this is the organiser’s second setback, having been forced to postpone since 2021 to address infrastructural issues.
The Francophone Games combines artistic and sporting events and have been held every four years since 1989.
