Mike LeBlanc, Founder, President and COO of Cobalt Robotics explains how the company’s solutions have been designed to assist security personnel, not replace them.

Imagine staring out into a barren desert for twelve hours straight, from dusk till dawn. Your sole responsibility is to scan the horizon and detect even the slightest movement from miles away, identifying any potential threat that could be out there lurking in the night. The sky is pitch black and the empty darkness leads to disorientation. These gruelling elements bear down on you as you grow weaker and more tired by the hour.

And yet, even as fatigue begins to set in, you know that nodding off for just one minute will jeopardise the safety and lives of those you are charged with protecting. The consequence of failure, whether it be due to sleep, distraction or simple human error, could be catastrophic.

There are not many people who would voluntarily sign up for this job description, but it is one of the tasks I performed as a former United States Marine Corps Infantry and Intelligence Officer and it is emblematic of the challenges humans face when working as full time security guards.

The human condition is what makes life amazing, but it is also inescapable. We are susceptible to emotion, mistakes, exhaustion and confusion. We have basic needs that must be supported to sustain life and maintain awareness.

These inherent limitations prevent us from ever functioning as a truly one hundred percent reliable security guard. However, like all industries, security is evolving thanks to breakthrough technological advancements that ultimately make our jobs easier and safer – and Cobalt Robotics is at the forefront of that evolution.

Working hand in hand

In a world that is constantly changing, security is one of the most essential aspects that businesses and individuals need to consider. However, the traditional methods of security can be outdated and ineffective. As Aristotle once said: “There is only one condition in which we can imagine managers not needing subordinates and masters not needing servants. This condition would be that each instrument could do its own work, at the word of command or by intelligent anticipation.”

Cobalt Robotics’ innovative security solutions embody this sentiment by creating the security guard that never sleeps and never gets tired.

Our robots are designed to assist humans, not replace them. We work hand in hand with security personnel to ensure that they can focus on the tasks that require their unique skill sets, while our robots handle the more mundane and repetitive tasks. This allows human security personnel to be more efficient and effective in their work, while Cobalt robots focus on the dirty work.

One major advantage of our security robots is their ability to gather and analyse data. Cobalt robots are equipped with state-of-the-art sensors that can detect everything from motion to temperature changes. The data is then analysed and used to make intelligent decisions about potential security threats.

Our robots are also capable of detecting anomalies and alerting human security personnel in real time, allowing for a faster response time and reducing the risk of a security breach.

Additionally, Cobalt robots are equipped with advanced AI capabilities that enable them to learn and adapt to their surroundings. They can identify and respond to patterns as well as learn from past incidents to improve their performance in the future. They can also be programmed to perform specific tasks such as patrolling designated areas, checking doors and windows and even providing remote assistance to employees or customers.

Unlike humans, another advantage of a Cobalt security robot is its ability to work around the clock. They never tire or become distracted, which means they can maintain constant vigilance over a workplace environment. This is particularly important for businesses that operate 24/7 or have high-security needs.

Pushing the boundaries of what is possible

At Cobalt Robotics, we understand that security is not a one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why we work closely with our clients to understand their unique security needs and develop customised solutions that are tailored to their specific requirements. The robots can be programmed to operate in a variety of environments and can be configured to meet the needs of different industries and organisations.

For example, a robot can be programmed to recognise specific individuals and grant access only to authorised personnel. This is particularly useful for businesses that handle sensitive information or valuable assets. It can also be programmed to recognise and respond to emergency situations such as fires, floods or other natural disasters and can provide real time alerts to first responders.

Moreover, our robots are not just a security solution, but also an asset for businesses. By utilising a Cobalt security robot, businesses can reduce costs like hiring and training security personnel, investing in security infrastructure and even insurance rates.

In today’s rapidly changing world, businesses and individuals need to be prepared for a range of security threats, from cyber-attacks to physical intrusions. Standard security industry practices are not enough to keep pace with the evolving threat landscape. That’s why Cobalt Robotics is focused on providing innovative security solutions that leverage emerging technologies to provide maximum protection and peace of mind, all while cutting costs and optimising businesses.

This is no longer a futuristic fantasy, but a reality that is already being embraced by businesses and organisations around the world. From Fortune 500 companies to small startups, our robots are helping to keep workplaces safe and secure, while also providing valuable insights into workplace activities.

By working in unison with human security personnel, our robots provide an added layer of security that antiquated security methods simply cannot. Their ability to gather and analyse data, adapt to their surroundings and operate around the clock make them an invaluable asset for businesses of all sizes and industries.

As we look towards the future, we are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of security – and beyond – and to provide our clients with the tools and technologies they need to protect their assets, their employees, and their customers. The future of security is here and it’s time for businesses to embrace it.
