According to The Arabian Stories, Captain Majid bin Saif Al Barhi – who is Director General of Maritime Affairs at the Ministry – has claimed that these regulations are part of the preparation of security plans for the security transition in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).
The regulations are said to include measures and procedures that have been designed to meet international standards for ship and port security, including the preparation and implementation of integrated security plans by ships and ports, based on comprehensive risk assessments.
Moreover, a strong monitoring and inspection system is expected to be established in line with the new regulations, with enhanced agency cooperation also set to be promoted.
The official rules will be key to protecting individuals, goods and marine facilities from security risks, according to Ayman bin Rashid Al Maamari, Director of the Ministry’s Maritime Legislation Department.
