Port Phillip Prison in Melbourne, Australia has fallen victim to a sophisticated cyber-attack.
As a result of its computer systems being breached, the Truganina prison has been forced to suspend in-person visits and video calls.
The Herald Sun has claimed that Victoria Police and the State Government’s Cyber Incident Response Team have been notified of the security breach.
To ensure that the prison can continue to operate as a safe environment for staff and inmates, management teams have increased security measures and are restricting phone access so that it is only essential calls being made.
In a statement released on 7 July, Victoria’s Corrections, Prison & Parole Department said: ‘We are prioritising urgent welfare concerns.
‘The prison operator is working to fix these issues as quickly as possible. There has been no impact on the safety and security of staff and prisoners.’
