The role of perimeter protection in theft prevention

With vehicle theft on the rise, car manufacturers and dealers are under increasing pressure to protect their high-value assets, reports Concentric Security.
One Detroit-based car design and manufacturing company took action and partnered with Concentric, a provider of integrated perimeter security solutions, to secure storage lots for new vehicles.
Unlike traditional perimeter protection, which focuses on keeping bad actors out, the auto industry faces a unique challenge: Preventing high-value merchandise from leaving the premises without authorisation.
Auto auctions, new vehicle storage lots, car dealerships and rental car lots all require durable, high-volume security solutions.
These solutions must not only handle frequent vehicle movement but also provide a robust defence against theft attempts.
“The right perimeter solution”
After assessing the company’s needs, Concentric Security recommended the HySecurity StrongArm M30 hostile vehicle mitigation barrier by Nice.
Known for its durability and performance, the barrier offered a blend of strength and efficiency.

The system proved its value in August 2024, when a theft attempt at a Ground Effects Automotive lot in Warren, Michigan was thwarted.
Six suspects attempted to steal $500,000 worth of Dodge Durangos by ramming two vehicles into the barrier to create an escape route. The barrier held firm, preventing their escape and securing the lot.
Warren Police, in an interview with Fox 2, remarked: “Whatever gate they’re using at [Ground Effects Automotive] would be a good one to consider using.”
Concentric Security has since installed over 40 StrongArm M30 barriers at various locations for this manufacturer, providing streamlined installation, intuitive access control and minimal maintenance.
