Motorola Solutions has announced that it has signed an agreement to supply more than 1,200 VB400 body cameras to police forces in the German state of Thuringia.

According to the company, the cameras will be rolled out alongside Video Manager evidence management software, allowing officers to easily upload and securely store video footage.

The video files will be organised by time, date and location as part of the force’s existing daily workflows.

The new body camera devices will be used by police forces across the state to help front-line teams de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, helping increase officer and public safety.

The big picture

George Maier, Thuringia’s Minister of the Interior, handed out the first cameras to Erfurt State Police Officers for their formal introduction.

Maier stated: “Not only do body cameras deter dangerous behaviour, but video evidence helps to provide officials and communities with a more complete understanding of events.”

Capturing evidence

After rigorous testing and a competitive process, The Ministry awarded the contract to Motorola Solutions.

The company says that the decision for the VB400 was based on performance, voice quality and the ability to customise pre-and-post-recording functionality to help ensure incidents are captured from the start.

“Front-line and community safety”

“Our customers’ experience shows that body cameras are a proven tool to improve front-line and community safety, while also serving as a valuable source of evidence in criminal cases,” said Axel Kukuk, Vice President of Western Europe, Motorola Solutions.

“Body cameras and related gadgets help customers understand, analyse and respond more effectively,” Kukuk added.
