According to new statistics published by Canada’s Communications Security Establishment (CSE), over two trillion ‘malicious actions’ against the federal government were blocked over the last fiscal year.
The CSE’s latest annual report explained that this works out at approximately 6.3 billion potential disruptions every day.
Federal government hack attempts on the rise?
The new report highlights the CSE’s activities from April 2022 to March 2023.
The report also contains high level details regarding the country’s external cyber operations as well as its efforts to defend infrastructure from threats.
According to the Toronto Star, the number of attempted hacks against the federal government appears higher than what the agency reported in recent years.
The 2020-21 and 2021-22 reports stated that automated defences blocked between two and seven billion and three and five billion actions daily.
