ISJ catches up with Adam Evans, the new Managing Director of ABUS UK & Ireland.
Can you share your thoughts on this new chapter and what excites you most about this opportunity?
I’m looking forward to leading ABUS UK and Ireland at a time when the industry is undergoing rapid transformation.
The global brand has a strong reputation for innovation and reliability and I’m eager to build on its foundation.
What excites me most is the opportunity to work with a talented team to drive growth, strengthen our presence and ensure we continue to provide quality security solutions that meet evolving customer needs.
How do you see your experience shaping your approach to leading ABUS in this region?
My experience has always been in understanding trends and aligning strategies to serve.
I intend to take a collaborative approach, working closely with partners, distributors and customers to ensure we’re delivering the right solutions.
Security is an essential part of everyday life and our goal is to make it as simple, effective and smart as possible. By focusing on innovation and maintaining strong relationships, I believe we can continue to grow and adapt to changing demands.
What key trends do you think will shape the future of the industry?
One of the most significant shifts we will see at The Security Event is the increasing adoption of not just smart security tech but also with machine learning capabilities.
End users are looking for solutions offering convenience and control, whether that’s through mobile apps, remote access or automation.
Staying one step ahead of this and highlighting the remote capabilities of smart security is essential.
How does ABUS One fit into this trend?
ABUS One is designed to make security management more intuitive and flexible.
It brings smart security products into a single platform, allowing users to control locks and devices from their smartphone or smartwatch.
One of its strengths is its ability to provide instant remote access, letting users grant or revoke permissions instantly.
We’ve also prioritised security, ensuring our encryption and authentication measures keep digital threats at bay.
We see ABUS One as a step forward in providing practical, user-friendly solutions.
How important is training in the industry? What role does the ABUS Knowledge Hub play in that?
Training is crucial, particularly as the industry faces an ongoing skills shortage.
With an ageing workforce taking essential skills with them, there is a need to inspire, mentor and lead a new generation to install, maintain and advise on increasingly sophisticated solutions.
The ABUS Knowledge Hub is designed to address this gap by providing hands-on training, CPD-certified courses and technical workshops.
By equipping professionals with knowledge and practical expertise, we can ensure a sustainable workforce, well-prepared to meet demands.
How do you see the role of AI and machine learning evolving in security?
AI and machine learning are becoming more prevalent in security.
These technologies can help identify unusual patterns of behaviour, allowing for instant responses to potential security threats. Mechanical security still remains fundamental, however.
High-quality locks, physical barriers and robust mechanical solutions continue to be the first line of defence.
The key is finding the right balance – leveraging AI and smart technology to improve efficiency and situational awareness while maintaining the reliability and trust that mechanical security provides.
