HID has announced that its hardware-based HID ATOM document reader and HID U.ARE.U facial recognition module have been integrated with Soloinsight’s CloudGate visitor management and physical identity and access management (PIAM) platform to enhance the self-service visitor check-in kiosk from Connected Technology Solutions (CTS).
According to the company, the kiosk has been designed for global enterprises and critical infrastructure environments and the integration enables organisations to verify visitor identities before issuing access credentials while creating a consistent, auditable visitor management process.
High-risk facility access
Facilities such as hospitals, data centres, offices and logistics hubs often manage hundreds of contractors, vendors and visitors each day, yet most check-in processes verify little more than a visitor’s name, HID said.
A visitor can type any name into a tablet or present a photo ID that a receptionist has no way to authenticate, which means the person issued a badge may not be who they claim to be.
The company explained that for regulated or high-risk facilities, that unverified access creates real exposure: unauthorised individuals gaining entry, gaps in the audit trail when an incident occurs and compliance failures when organisations cannot prove who was on site and when.
By combining document authentication, facial verification and visitor management into a single solution, the kiosk helps security teams streamline visitor processing, reduce manual identity checks and maintain detailed records for compliance and investigations.
How it works
HID explained that the access kiosk works by having the host pre-registering visitors in CloudGate, which then sends an email invitation with a QR code to the visitor.
At the kiosk, the visitor scans the QR code, then verifies their identity through the HID ATOM document scanner, which reads passports, driver’s licenses and mobile IDs.
The HID U.ARE.U Face Module runs live face verification and rejects any scan that does not match the identity document or is not a live face.
CloudGate confirms check-in, the kiosk prints a visitor pass on the spot and the host is notified.
Returning visitors can also be granted permission to check in without a host, where appropriate.
Following identity verification, HID said that CloudGate records each transaction in a centralised visitor record, providing security teams with a complete history of visitor activity that supports investigations, reporting and regulatory compliance.
