Overcoming the challenges posed by the corrosive effects of salty sea air on its security and access system, the South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club (SMSLSC) has collaborated with Gallagher Security and its channel partner, Johnson Controls.
Positioned at the southern extremity of Maroubra Beach, the SMSLSC, a volunteer-driven organisation established in 1959, recognised the critical need for a contemporary and resilient access control solution.
Robust and user-friendly framework
With an unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of Maroubra Beach and fostering the training of future life savers, the club sought to replace its antiquated and corroded security system.
Confronted with the limitations of its former security infrastructure, the club reached out to Andrew McCabe, a dedicated SMSLSC member and the Director Government & Defence, Pacific at Johnson Controls.
McCabe stated: “I reached out to our trusted partner Gallagher who we have a 25-year plus relationship with, as I knew their Gallagher SMB (Security Made Better) solution was a great fit for sports clubs and community facilities.”
Acknowledging the situation, McCabe collaborated with Gallagher Security to implement a security solution that aligns with the club’s mission and provides a robust and user-friendly framework for its operational needs.
Greg O’Neill, National SMB Manager, Gallagher Security commented: “Gallagher was keen to support by donating the SMB solution and with the Johnson Controls NSW Systems & Service teams taking care of the installation as part of its MyGiving program, the club has been brought into a new era of security and access control with a next generation cloud-based system that can be easily managed from a smartphone.”
Continuous support
With the largest Surf Life Saving ‘Nippers’ program in the country and versatile premises for multiple uses, it was crucial to have a solution that allowed for easy and quick installation.
Johnson Controls successfully installed the Gallagher SMB system within a day.
The cloud-based security system has immediately improved the club’s systems and processes, leading to a reduction in administration tasks by at least two hours per week.
McCabe concluded: “We are proud to have shared our time and smart building solutions to provide security to club members and club visitors.”
Gallagher SMB presents itself as an app-based security solution designed to simplify and streamline security measures for businesses.
The company‘s comprehensive system offers user-friendly interfaces, enhanced efficiency, remote accessibility, lockdown capabilities, seamless upgrades, easy installation procedures and continuous support available around the clock.
Access to the club is facilitated through smartphones or fobs for those without smartphones, ensuring convenience for all members.
Additionally, management has the capability to remotely control access, particularly useful for scenarios such as deliveries or emergencies.
The provision of free upgrades through remote access proves to be a valuable feature, contributing to time and cost savings for the not-for-profit club.
Ensuring beachgoers’ safety
According to the companies, the collaborative effort between Gallagher Security and Johnson Controls has undeniably propelled SMSLC into a new era of access and security management.
This enhancement according to the club allows it to prioritise its core mission of ensuring beachgoers’ safety, marking a significant step forward in its operational capabilities.
