Entries open for the 5th annual Gordon McLanaghan Award

Global MSC Security has announced that entries are now being accepted for the 2019 Gordon McLanaghan Award, which recognises an individual, project team or organisation that has gone above and beyond, to achieve a technical security solution. 

The 5^th annual award will be presented at a gala charity dinner (raising funds for The Lily Foundation) at The Bristol Hotel in Bristol, on 11 November. It takes place on the eve of the Global MSC Security Conference and Exhibition 2019, in the presence of security practitioners and suppliers from across the UK. The award is bestowed in memory of Gordon McLanaghan, an innovator within the Bristol City Council CCTV and Emergency Control Centre who sadly lost his battle to cancer in 2014. 

The 2018 winner of the award was Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service and Area Manager – Resilience, Mobilising & Service Training at Cornwall Fire and Rescue, Kevin Thomas, is returning this year. On 12 November he will share with conference delegates how its Critical Control Centre is staffed by emergency call-takers that are also Security Industry Authority (SIA) qualified CCTV operators. This enabling the control centre to support the round-the-clock monitoring of surveillance cameras located across 11 towns. 

The award is independently judged by a panel of experienced security practitioners who will be looking for evidence of innovation and the impact of the technical security solution has had in solving a specified issue.

In addition to prestige of being presented with a piece of Bristol Blue glassware, the winner will be given a cheque for £1,000. The 2019 Gordon McLanaghan Award is free to enter and more information including how to submit can be found here. The deadline for entries is Monday 30 September 2019.
