ISJ hears exclusively from Dr Boghos Boghossian, CEO and CTO of Ipsotek about the company’s origins, turning points and the future that lies ahead.

As Ipsotek marks 25 years in the industry, the company finds itself at an inflection point – not just technologically, but humanly.

Few leaders know its journey as intimately as Dr Boghos Boghossian, who has guided the organisation through moments of triumph, reinvention and defining adversity.

The early years: Building from five people to a global footprint

When asked about the foundation of Ipsotek’s success, Boghos begins with a simple but powerful concept: Listening.

“It has always been about listening to our customers. Our product was developed by our people based on customer feedback. That is how it became what it is.”

But turning feedback into innovation wasn’t always easy. In the late 2000s, the company faced one of its hardest moments. The market was not ready for computer vision and sales were weak.

“We were ahead of the market. There was no real demand for computer vision at the time. Sales struggled and one CEO after another left. We ended up as five people running the company.”

Those five remained committed and the company’s future hinged on their willingness to take ownership.

“We had no salespeople left so I told the team we had to sell. I had just gotten married and a week later I flew to the Middle East. That trip-built relationships that still exist today.”

From those early efforts, Ipsotek’s customer-first philosophy and long-term relationships became central to its growth.

Innovation under pressure: Lessons and Leadership during COVID-19

History reveals how the team stepped up during the pandemic, a period during which uncertainty challenged organisations globally.

“No one knew how to respond – not even the governments. But as a team we came together. Working from home, we developed technology that helped organisations enforce distancing and comply with safety measures.”

What began as crisis response soon became a showcase of agility.

“We went from idea to capability to deployment in just a few months. We developed multi-site projects in three months that now take less than a week. It was a proud moment to contribute something meaningful during such a difficult time.”

COVID-19 proved once again that Ipsotek’s strength wasn’t just technology – it was the people behind it.

A partnership forged in shared principles: The Atos acquisition Ipsotek’s acquisition by Atos Group stands as another milestone. Far from a cultural disruption, it strengthened the company’s foundation.

“We were already partners with Atos. We shared principles, worked in similar verticals and complemented each other geographically. When another organisation showed interest in acquiring us, we wanted Atos involved.”

What mattered most was preserving Ipsotek’s agility.

“Atos wanted us to remain independent and agile to nurture innovation. That was critical for me. Five years later, Ipsotek has tripled in size but still operates with startup spirit.”

Despite industry norms, Ipsotek saw minimal attrition – and even welcomed employees who returned after leaving.

“People come back because it is an interesting place to work. We innovate quickly and Atos gives us scale and support.”

According to the Ipsotek, the acquisition gave it the best of both worlds, entrepreneurial freedom backed by global resources.

The company is now representing Vision AI within Eviden; the product brand of Atos Group and continue to align and grow together globally.

The AI boom: No excuses for growth

Boghos is clear: Ipsotek is at its biggest inflection point.

“In the past, something always stood in the way of growth. Now I see no excuses. We are in the right industry at the right time. The AI boom is only starting.”

He explains how demand has changed dramatically.

“We used to speak about a small percentage of cameras needing AI. Now nearly every camera needs AI. The world has seen the need for acceleration and we are positioned perfectly.”

A major decision strengthened this position, moving from DSP acceleration to NVIDIA GPUs.

It enabled closer collaboration across NVIDIA Metropolis, Cosmos Reason VLM and Blueprint‑built AI agents, strengthening Ipsotek’s long‑running collaboration with NVIDIA.

“With NVIDIA, clients already know the value. We no longer have to justify hardware acceleration. That conversation is behind us.”

Combined with expanding Ipsotek’s sales teams and the support of Atos and Eviden for certifications, cybersecurity and global reach, the path ahead is clear.

The next chapter: A story that never ends

When asked what chapter Ipsotek is in today, Boghos pushes back on the metaphor.

“It cannot be a storybook because stories end. I don’t see an end to this story.”

He describes how dramatic the last six years have been.

“No one imagined the capabilities we have today. The big step change happened around 2018 and 2019 when AI became more streamlined. In six years, we moved from basic capabilities to things we could not have imagined.”

And yet the chapter ahead is not about closure – but acceleration.

“These AI models will become more capable. The only thing that could stop the story is if we fail to regulate and manage AI. We must be prepared for risks including AI bad actors. If we do this responsibly, there will always be something new to build.”

Continuity

Despite the scale of transformation, what excites Boghos most is continuity.

“After 25 years, every day is still different. We are learning, innovating and growing. This is the best we have ever been.”

He ends with a personal reflection that encapsulates the culture of Ipsotek.

“I love learning something new every day. The moment I stop learning; I shouldn’t be here. Fortunately, Ipsotek and our colleagues at Atos make every day a learning experience.”

Dr Boghos Boghossian, CTO and CEO of Ipsotek, is an acknowledged expert in computer vision systems, with a strong portfolio of published research papers. He earned his PhD in 2001 from King’s College, University of London, for his pioneering research on human behaviour analysis in video surveillance systems. Since then, Dr. Boghossian has been instrumental in integrating AI into Video Analytics, driving its transformation into what is now widely recognised as a key pillar of Computer Vision. Dr Boghossian continues the innovation with the introduction of GenAI into Video Analytics and Computer Vision, further enhancing the field’s capabilities and applications. His contributions have transformed video monitoring, enabling systems to analyse and interpret human behaviour with exceptional precision, and have been pivotal in bringing this technology to global markets.
