Ahead of the festive season of Carnaval del País, which takes place in Gualeguaychú, Argentina, the city built its own Sambadrome, the Corsódromo, capable of accommodating 38,000 spectators.

The Corsódromo features an extension which is 500 metres long and a track width of ten metres, meaning that managing the movements of people in the crowd was a real challenge – this meant that an accurate and effective outdoor video monitoring solution was required.

Carnaval del País runs for two months and features large scale entertainment events and parades. To ensure that people could enjoy the show safely, the operational team deployed several types of Dahua camera around Corsódromo to monitor the situation during the carnival.

The client required a system capable of monitoring crowds from the moment they enter the stadium to the moment they leave the premises. Another key requirement was that recorded video footage could be readily available for further analysis in case of an incident.

A dozen 4MP IR Vari-focal Bullet WizMind Network Camera (IPC-HFW5442H-ZHE) were deployed to cover various areas of the venue; other solutions installed included: 4MP 32x Starlight IR WizSense Network PTZ Cameras (SD5A432XB-HNR); 2MP 33x Starlight+ Laser WizMind Network PTZ Camera (DH-SD6AL233XA-HNR) and the Integrated Solar Monitoring System (DH-SD6C3432XB-HNR-AGQ-PV).

Not only did the solutions allow for the effective monitoring of entrances to help limit queuing time – which can result in the overcrowding of areas – but the solutions also enabled personnel to be stationed in the right place, at the right time to prevent other incidents from unfolding.
