Black & White Engineering revealed its latest office opening in Madrid, Spain as it continues to grow across the data centre sector.

Madrid office

According to the company, the new office opening will strengthen the consultancy’s presence in the country and support rising demand from data centre clients across Europe.

It also brings civil, structural, MEP and design management expertise closer to clients in the region.

The office will be led by Hector Hernandez, Area Director, Spain, while Marcos Uttley, Regional Director, Europe, will lead the consultancy’s growth across southern Europe.

Its opening forms part of Black & White Engineering’s wider focus on investing in key data centre markets.

The consultancy is continuing to build its local resource while maintaining a joined-up design model across civil, structural, MEP and design management disciplines.

The company added that the Madrid office follows continued growth across its international network, which employs more than 1,200 people and supports the delivery of data centre and critical building infrastructure projects across key global markets.

Hector Hernandez

Black & White Engineering explained that Hernandez joins the team with more than 20 years’ international experience in data centre and critical infrastructure engineering, including major schemes across Europe, the Middle East, Australia and the Americas.

His background spans hyperscale and colocation environments, with experience across advisory, design, construction, commissioning and operational delivery.

Hector, who is an Accredited Tier Designer by the Uptime Institute, will work closely with the company’s wider European leadership team as the consultancy grows its Spanish operation.

“A recognised name in Spain”

Hernandez commented: “The opportunity to build Black & White Engineering’s presence in Spain from the ground up was a major draw.

“The market here is developing quickly and clients need advisers who understand both the technical demands of these projects and the local delivery environment.”

He continued: “My focus is on establishing Black & White Engineering as a recognised name in Spain.

“That means building a strong local team, developing trusted client relationships and delivering work that shows the value of specialist data centre engineering expertise close to clients.”

Marcos Uttley

According to the company, Uttley brings senior leadership experience across engineering, real estate development, design consultancy and infrastructure services, having held CEO, Managing Director and COO roles across Spain, Portugal, Italy, the UK, Germany and the United States.

His role includes strengthening client relationships and supporting growth across Europe.

“Culture, growth, clarity of the business strategy”

Uttley commented: “Spain is an important market for data centre investment and gives us a strong base from which to support clients locally and across wider Europe.

“The Madrid office reflects our continued focus on building depth in key markets while drawing on the technical experience of our global team.

“What stood out to me about Black & White Engineering was its culture, growth and the clarity of the business strategy.

“The opportunity is to build on that by creating long-term value for clients, strengthening our European offer and making sure we have the right technical expertise close to the markets we serve,” he concluded.
