In a bold experiment, Axis Communications has demonstrated the resilience of its cameras by placing one beneath the ice in a hockey rink, capturing unique perspectives in challenging conditions.
Known for pioneering network technology, Axis has explored the boundaries of its own solutions to showcase their versatility and durability.
Carl-Axel Alm, Concept Engineer, Axis said: “An ice hockey game is covered by cameras from all angles, except one. We’re all about pushing our limits and doing it in an innovative way.
“We want to broaden the general idea of what our cameras and systems can do, that is how the experiment came to be.”
Axis pushing limits and broadening perceptions
The discreet modular camera, typically found in compact spaces, is frozen within the ice, offering an innovative angle of the action above.
According to the company, this showcases Axis‘ commitment to pushing limits and broadening perceptions.
To capture this, a modular setup was chosen.
AXIS F2135-RE Fisheye Sensor was frozen in the ice together with a cable connecting it to the AXIS F9114 Main Unit which powered the camera sensor as well as processed the video feed coming from the sensor.
The experiment, conducted by Axis engineers, film teams and hockey players, pushes traditional security camera technology boundaries, capturing footage with a unique perspective.
With a focus on durability, Axis’ range of surveillance solutions, designed for durability, withstand extreme conditions, offering full HD/1080p at 60 fps and a wide 185° field of view, even in temperatures as low as negative 40° degrees.
“There are endless possibilities”
Alm continued: “With this project, we are proud to show the versatility of our product, as well as the durability and image quality.
“The experiment also sets the stage for potential future explorations in other challenging environments. There are endless possibilities that we look forward to exploring.”
