The Customs & Border Control Service (CBC) for the Cayman Islands has recently confirmed the installation of non-intrusive body scanners at the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) and the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA) in Cayman Brac.
The new scanners from OD Security have been installed at the airports in an effort to further strengthen national security and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
Airports strengthen security infrastructure
According to a statement issued by the CBC, the upgrade is expected to enhance the infrastructure designed to detect individuals looking to smuggle contraband into the Cayman Islands.
The body scanners – which utilise advanced imaging technology to provide non-intrusive scanning capabilities – will provide a visual indication of concealed substances and objects.
This technology will offer enhanced accuracy, thus improving the capability of personnel and serving to rectify any existing vulnerabilities in the current security framework.
CBC Officers will undergo training to operate the equipment efficiently and effectively.
“Cutting-edge body scanners”
“The introduction of non-invasive body scanners represents a monumental leap forward in our efforts to maintain the highest standards of border security,” said Hon. Dwayne Seymour, Minister for Border Control, Labour & Culture.
“This technology enhances our ability to detect and prevent drug smuggling and ensures a safe and secure environment for all travellers.”
“The installation of these advanced scanners showcases CBC’s commitment to utilising innovative solutions to tackle emerging security challenges,” added Charles Clifford, Director, CBC.
“By adopting this technology, we reaffirm our dedication to protecting its borders and safeguarding the wellbeing of its citizens.
“Thanks to our business partners, AVCOM, including Installation Technologies International (ITI) in the USA for their exceptional distribution services and OD Security in the Netherlands for supplying the cutting-edge body scanners, ensuring a seamless installation process.”
